Remember when you were a little kid and everyday was an adventure? You lived in the eternal now, the ever present.
But now you have become bogged down with worries, doubts, and fears. The past keeps coming into your present in the form of negative emotions, reactions, and negative thoughts. They drag you back into reacting as if the past were repeating itself all over again.
This meditation helps you come back to moment, where you are closer to the reality of the present and farther from the distant past. Now when your bad reactions surface you can observe them like they were just a television blaring at the other side of the room. Mental distance leads to mental clarity, and emotional calmness too.
Many people practice the little meditation for 5 minutes first thing in the morning, then around noon, then in the evening.
